How D'ya: Creating a Bullet Journal in Evernote using IF

I can't claim credit for the original idea here, obviously.  The Bullet Journal is a creation of Ryder Carroll, and I found the original idea for making an Evernote version on Medium.  I've adapted it a bit for my purpose, and want to share that with you.

First, let's create the Daily Journal

    1. Create a Notebook called BULLET JOURNAL, or whatever you prefer.
    2. Then, let's create a note in that Notebook called Daily.
    3. I like to have two more notes:  A Scratchpad called "Notes", and a note for stuff that's happened that I'd like to remember.  I've called this "Memories".   Some of you may like one more for Gratitude, I've seen that as well.

Next, let's create the other components of your Bullet Journal.
    1. Create Templates for MONTHLY LOG, FUTURE LOG, and COLLECTIONS.  Put them in their own separate notebook called TEMPLATES.  Duplicate and rename these as needed.  For Example, FUTURE LOG 2018, APRIL 2018 MONTH LOG, PODCAST IDEAS.  Move the renamed notes into your BULLET JOURNAL Notebook
    2. Select all notes in BULLET JOURNAL Notebook.  Right Click in selected area, and choose Create Table of Contents Note.  (For new Notes, right click on the note, click Copy Internal Link.  Add the 'page number' and Note Title on the next line of your TOC, highlight it, and click hyperlink, then add.  Paste the hyperlink into the text box and click OK.

Now, let's add in the IFTTT.  If you don't have an account with IFTTT, go to IFTTT.com and sign up.  It's free.

    1. On the My Applets page, click the New Applet button in the upper right hand corner.
    2.  Click on the blue and white plus sign next to 'This'
    3.  Select 'Date and Time'
    4.  Select 'Every day at'.
    5.  If the time is not 12 AM and 00 Minutes, change it to that.  Then click Create Trigger.
    6.  Click on the blue and white plus sign next to 'That'.
    7.  Click the Evernote icon.
    8.  Select "Append to a note'.
    9.  Scroll down to where it says "Append to note', and enter the name of the Daily Log you created.   In the Notebook field, enter the name of the Notebook (BULLET JOURNAL), then click Save.

Every day at Midnight, the note should give you a pagebreak with the date and time as a day separator.  Once a note reaches 2MB in file size, it will create a new note.

Finally, let's add a trigger to append to your daily note with a Note Widget.

    1.  On the My Applets page, click the New Applet button in the upper right hand corner.
    2.  Click on the blue and white plus sign next to 'This'
    3.  In the search box, type 'Note Widget'
    4.  Select 'Any New Note'
    5.  Click on the blue and white plus sign next to 'That'.
    6.  Click the Evernote icon.
    7.  Select "Add to a note'.
    8.  In the title field,  put the name of the Daily Log you Created.
    9.  In the Notebook field, enter the name of the Notebook (BULLET JOURNAL), then click Save.

You can another Note Widget for adding a To-Do (this will append a to-do checkbox to a note in your Daily Log.  Just follow the same directions above, substituting 'Append a to-do to note" in Step 7.

Install the IFTTT app on your phone and sign in..  When you do, you'll see your New Note Widgets on your Widgets screen
Tap them and type your note.

If you have an Apple Watch with the IFTTT app installed, you'll be able to dictate the notes using the widgets.  (SERIOUSLY, THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER.)

(If you're like me, I set a reminder in the morning to go pull up Evernote and review every day and plan for the day ahead.)
